Midjourney's New --exp Parameter and Some Kling 2.0 - AIxC: 83
Share

Missed again last week, but as my wife says in her personal training, it’s about the bounce back rate!

Much has happened since we last talked. Lots of tools, news and overall happenings in the world of Ai.

Hector & AIxC team
ps. excuse any typos, at least you know I don’t use Ai for my writing :)

01 / TOOLS

The Basics Matter

Midjourney released some great new features, with two getting the lion’s share of attention: --exp and --oref.

Why they matter? In my opinion, more control. One more clue we can give the tool to understand what our vision is.

--exp stands for Experimental and it’s a parameter that allows Midjourney to ramp up the detail and creative risks it takes on materials, composition, lighting, etc. It sits alongside --stylize, seemingly almost as a subset of that. Admittedly a bit confusing, but more control is good, it just needs more testing.

--oref, or Omni-Reference is a lot more simple to understand. It’s a visibly improved version of character reference, that also adds the ability to reference things outside of characters, such as objects. We’ll focus on this more in other weeks, but it’s definitely a strong feature, maybe the strongest of this drop.

So back to the title of this section - The Basics Matter. When new parameters come out, it’s easy to get caught up in what they can do. But at the end of the day, they’re simply another fine-tuning dial. They won’t band-aid a prompt that’s confusing or leading you down the wrong path. Prompts and reference images are still the best way to communicate your vision.

02 / TOOLS

My Suggestion - Get to Know Image-to-Video

We do A LOT of R&D effort in the animation space. It’s a realm I believe is worth exploring for any creative. Image-to-video tools are giving us an ability to sell our vision in ways we simply couldn’t easily do before.

My suggestion? Go on freepik or krea and start exploring how you can bring your visuals to life. Those two platforms allow you to test a range of video models. You can get a sense of which ones work for you before you sign up to their services directly.

I’m a fan of Kling 2.0, and utilized that to take my futuristic footwear visual above, and quickly envision how the outer digital grid mesh could look if it was alive and in motion. Fun stuff.

Another generation minus the glowing flare. A 360 to get a look at the forms better.

03 / FOR PAID SUBSCRIBERS

--exp Explorations and Midjourney & Kling Prompts

For paid subscribers, we have a good initial exploration on what the --exp parameter can do across characters and product. We also touch on the kling videos briefly. We’ll be digging more into that in the coming weeks with thorough walk-throughs.

As always, hope it all helps!
